Hike Ontario Young Hikers Program: Take a Walk on the Wild Side

Program Description: Meet Wandering Woodrow, Hike Ontarios resident expert on the wild side of walking and hiking, as he educates and entertains about hiking and walking safely for children, the benefits of the activity and the natural world of Ontario to explore along our trails.
This fun and informative program will provide children and adults with the important hiking hints to enjoy Ontario trails safely and learn about some of the wonderful natural features to be discovered along our great provincial trails. This is part of Hike Ontarios commitment to providing education about the benefits of hiking and walking trails in Ontario as well as our promotion of safe and positive experiences along our trails.
Audience: Children ages 5-12 and their families/ guardians.
Length: 1.5 hours
Outline:
Ø The Story of Wandering Woodrow (interactive story telling)
Ø The Dos and Do Nots of Hiking (fun but informative examples to help children and adults learn the basics of walking and hiking safely)
Ø Hiking and Walking Checklist Game
Ø Walk on the Wild Side (displays and discussion about natural features along Ontario trails and locally)
Ø Walk With Woodrow (take a walk around Willow Park and put into practice some of the information learned)
Costs:
Tickets (wristbands) for Riverfest-Norval will be required for hike. They are available in advance for discounted prices at Youngs Pharmacy, Xtreme Fitness, and Nature's Fire. - or may be purchased at the hike.
Tickets are valid for weekend including Sunday at Riverfest in Norval.
